August 31st 1962
Who would know that in our government’s haste to beautify its way into the 21st century, we would end up selling our national heritage for 876 runs?
Before you get started, Brian Lara is my boy. These days young black males are blamed for everything from the state of the economy to the dismantling of our cultural identity with drug dealing-dub-playing-free sex having-selves. It’s great to see that anyone who knows the difference between a vup and a leg bye, looks up at one of these same black males with respect. All that aside, could anyone tell me what is the official address for that piece of real estate between South Quay and Queen Street?
Oh yeah, and while you’re at it, can anyone tell me, have we sold August 31st 1962 for those 876 runs or why the beautification project stopped at the Cathedral? Has anyone else noticed the tacky BarberGreen courtyard in one of the most beautiful buildings in the Caribbean?
But let’s make August 31st more than just another long weekend, and put the effort to beautify Trinidad & Tobago in some kind of responsible perspective. Or just call the day Brian Lara Day and done the ole talk.
